Have you been dreaming of trying something new? Something adventurous? Somewhere in the sunshine, somewhere exotic? Can you see yourself beach side watching the surfers paddling at sunset, wanting to be in and amongst them? Consider Nicaragua. Consider surf lessons. Bring on the big smiles.
I spent a week with a group of surf newbies on the beaches of Nicaragua in and around San Juan Del Sur. We surfed two locations, Playa Maderas and Playa Hermosa, the beach featured in Survivor Nicaragua’s first season.
Since I have moved here potentially long term I figure I will learn eventually. Or not. But I do enjoy watching surfers, both experienced wave riders and first timers. I have had a few lessons from a few different instructors now and I got up stood up. I did. And it is always good fun. But the power of the ocean still intimidates me. I’d like to be under it looking at the pretty fish. And on the shore photographing surfers doing their thing.
I can guarantee you every time I popped up and stuck, I smiled just as big as these ladies. When it all comes together it is a rush. And these ladies had no fear. They kept going right back for more better popping up.
And more smiles!
