Instagram announced it will begin showing ads mixed in with our filtered feed of selfies, sunsets and ice cream sundaes. You may be wondering why I’m sharing this on a travel blog. As a Generation Y traveler with a smartphone no less than two feet away from me at any time and an interest in beautiful travel pictures with a filter of nostalgia and adventure, this affects me. I’m guessing some of you also share parts of your life and travel adventures on Instagram too.
In a perfect world these ads will be exactly like Instagram describes it.
“We want these ads to be enjoyable and creative in much the same way you see engaging, high-quality ads when you flip through your favorite magazine.”
In the real world, the Facebook-owned Instagram may sadly be overwhelmed with branded photos and videos. I’m hoping ad content is just as compelling as the content we’ve grown to love in our own finely curated Instagram feeds. I wouldn’t mind seeing a great video from an airline who I’ve mentioned in my typical I’m-going-somewhere flight photos or more content related to photo contests like the ones that Passion Passport holds each week.
What’s your opinion on Instagram ads? More importantly, what’s your Instagram account handle? Share it in the comments below and I’d love to follow you. You can follow me here.
Happy travels,
