Photo Friday: Waimea Canyon Kauai

Worldwide we’re being bombarded with gloomy economic news and forecasts full of doom. I’ve been more than a little battered around by the effects of this over the past few months and so today, for Photo Friday, I’m posting a little pick-me-up for me – I hope you enjoy :)

This photo was taken at the rim of Waimea Canyon in Kauai. But not from the viewpoint on the road. Oh no, we hiked the Canyon Trail and then continued on UP to the lookout over the rim. It was about a 3 hour hike with some elevation gain. BigB, in the Baby Bjorn, was about 10 days old, I know we stopped for at least one diaper change and maybe even a quick nurse along the way! It was eight years ago (long before I was blogging about my travels with my children), so I’ll defer to the TravelingMamas for an excellent summary of trails in this park.

Sigh! Now you’ve made me all nostalgic and sentimental for Kauai.
:)
Thanks for the shout-out. Hawaii is one of my favorite places in the world, and getting to see a photo of you there too has made me happy on a cold rainy morning.

Wow, you were hiking for 3 hours 10 days after giving birth…I could barely stroll around our neigborhood park. But maybe if I’d had that canyon as inspiration, I love that place.

Kauai is my favorite island in Hawaii. I love that it feels
so exotic but travel there is easy with kids of all ages.

Michelle – as a non-Mom I find this truly remarkable (maybe I’d find it even more remarkable as a mom, who knows. Either way, YOU ROCK!

You look terrific in that photo! I barely had the whole shower/get dressed thing under control 10 days after birth ;)

@mudslidemama @ciaobambino Glad I gave you both some happy memories of Kauai. It’s also one of my favorite places – literally on this earth.

@everyone Yes. Hiking 10 days after delivery. VBAC no less. This hike will always be one of my personal “high points” – made all the better by your applause :)

I love that plump little leg sticking out! Hawaii is definitely on my must-go list.

I am, of course, in awe of your Iron Woman qualities. When my children were 10 days old, I was lucky if I made it up and down the stairs.

Oh my, ten days? We were comfortably babymooning in a giant organic

bed as a 3 some in our sunny California vineyard home for
the first 8 weeks, with a doula downstairs meeting our every need. We did
not even let relatives come by until two weeks.

I can’t even imagine hiking with a newborn!

Funny, but that was the seed for our open ended tour as we enjoyed that
time together sooo much. We are older parents who waited 9 years for our one
and only to show up, so didn’t want to do much but gaze into eyes, meditate an
, massage, nurture and cuddle.

You look happy and so young! Different strokes for different folks! ;)

Don’t worry about the economy, it is a world wide mess, but worrying

just adds to the problem. What is essential in life…love…is free!
