Picking up our lives and leaving home behind for the new and unexpected is not an easy thing. But when the new and unexpected is the happiest place on earth it makes the change that much easier. Mousetrapped is Catherine Ryan Howard’s memoir about her year and a half long adventure abroad working in the Magic Kingdom.
Howard is an Irish twenty-something with three goals in mind – to work at Walt Disney World, live in the United States, and see a Space Shuttle launch. What I love most about this memoir is that you can tell from her writing that she achieves all her goals with the humility anyone would need to challenge one self’s like this. She is not afraid to poke fun at herself for her slip-ups because we all make mistakes when we are unsure of the road we are on. It is Howard’s humility that makes this an easy read for any traveler who is all too familiar with the ups and and downs of living and working abroad.
What is even more amazing is that she is doing things that probably most Americans have not had the chance to do. If you love Disney World, Space Shuttle launches, or even Bruce Willis, Howard has the inside scoop that most people would love to know about whether you live in Florida already or live on the other side of the world and are looking for a little wanderlust inspiration. It is such a unique story that proves that dreams really do come true.
