You must buy this book! The Lost Girls: Three Friends. Four Continents. One Unconventional Detour Around the World. by Jennifer Baggett, Holly C. Corbett, and Amanda Pressner is a travel memoir for anyone who yearns to drop everything and devote their time to the open road searching for who knows what.
Jennifer, Holly, and Amanda are three friends from New York City who do just that. They leave behind media jobs and relationships to fulfill their dreams of traveling around the world for one year. The girls travel from South America and Africa to India and Southeast Asia with specific goals in mind such as volunteering in Kenya and attending yoga school at an ashram in India. Even with these goals in mind, the girls are also hoping to come across an epiphany that makes them realize a better way to live their lives than the stressful and confusing ones they lived at home. However, what they come to realize is that there does not have to be a resolution but just the fact that they are brave enough to search is the remarkable thing.
If you have ever traveled with your buddies you will feel nostalgic reading about these girls and there adventures together. Each chapter is written from either one of their perspectives but no matter who is writing, each girl always mentions the bond that grew between her and her travel mates during their year abroad. Even if you have traveled alone or are thinking about starting a new life somewhere out there you will be able to identify with the girls as they each reveal their own insecurities and flaws and eventual acceptance of who they are as women.
Whether you are a traveler or not, this is a book that is filled with incredible honesty and vulnerability that should be an inspiration to not be afraid to journey with no direction.
