My husband and I visited Marfa over Easter weekend to see Jeff Mangum perform at the Crowley Theatre. It was such a treat to hear his music live for the first time in such an intimate setting. His band, Neutral Milk Hotel, has reunited after a 15-year hiatus, so it’s especially sweet to have caught one of his last solo shows.
Riding my bike in front of the historic Crowley Theatre.
When I first started venturing out to Marfa, I became quite focused on where to eat because restaurants and hours were limited. There are many more options now, so not to worry.
Located under the pavilion, next to the train tracks.
Thursday – Saturday noon-3pm
I get the Marfalafel and it’s ginormous. I never miss having a meal at Food Shark.

Good wine and freshly prepared foods in a relaxed indoor space with vintage booths and installation art.
Future Shark is married to Food Shark. Really! The woman who runs Future Shark and the man who runs Food Shark are married and have created quite an empire in Marfa, including weekend late night munchie haven, Food Shark Museum of Electronic Wonders & Late Night Grilled Cheese Parlour.

Friday & Saturday 11am-4pm, Sunday 11am-8pm, Monday 11am-4pm
Creative sandwiches. I am fond of the sardine sandwich.
Marfa Table is the brainchild of Bridget Weiss. In 2009 she opened the restaurant in Marfa and the few times we tried to eat there during our travels, it was either closed or hosting a private party.
When I researched to see if we might be able to try it this round, I discovered Bridget had moved back to Austin and was doing dinner parties right here in my hometown!
Even better, she had a special pop-up dinner for Easter in Marfa. We were lucky enough to secure a spot and dined with many locals. The food was delicious, the company was very interesting, and Bridget was kind enough to work with our limited diets.
Be sure to check out her site to see if there’s a pop-up while you’re in Marfa!
> There are also two upscale restaurants in town – Cochineal and Maiya’s. Both are delicious and feature great wine lists.
> When I need a refreshing smoothie, I head to Squeeze Marfa. They also serve breakfast, lunch, and a variety of juices.
Places I haven’t tried, but are on my list…
> There is a newer food truck called Boyz 2 Men that serves tacos.
What is your favorite place to eat when visiting Marfa and the surrounding area?
May your journey be your muse,
Rachel
