I realize there are five million food blog challenges out there, and I don’t take them seriously (I probably should), but this throw-down came from my Mother-in-law via Facebook:
“Find a recipe on a food blog and cook it this Wednesday!”
Simple, right? And I’m definitely up for it! But another thing happened on Facebook that makes me want to up the ante for myself. I realized, while talking about Bunny Chow with some readers, that I have never once stepped into a Carniceria. I live in Southern California. I drive past them every day. Yet, I’ll find myself blissfully wandering the cramped aisles of the Indian grocery store, while completely ignoring the possibilities of the Latino butcher shop next door. Shame on me.
So this week, my challenge to myself is to make Beef Cheek Ragu Pappardelle with “Cachetes” (beef cheeks) sourced at the first Carniceria I come across. Hopefully I’ll have this accomplished tomorrow in time for WanderFood Wednesday.
Now here’s my challenge to you: Go somewhere in your home town this week you’ve never been before, find something delicious, and cook with it. I’d love to hear what you find and make!
