Mark your calendars, Vancouver Chinese food fans. A new Chinese food festival comes to town November 1-18, and it looks like awesome eating!
Organized by the Vancouver-area Chinese Restaurant Awards, it’s called the Signature Dish Dining Festival. During the first 18 days of November, 18 Chinese restaurants in Greater Vancouver will offer fixed price menus for groups of four ($100), six ($150), or ten ($300) diners, each featuring a selection of their specialties, or “signature dishes.”
If you’ve ever struggled with how to order in a Chinese restaurant (and I know I have), these set menus let you try a variety of dishes without having to figure out what the restaurant does well or what dishes go with what. A great idea!
I had the chance to sample some of the signature dishes at four of the participating restaurants, and I’ll give you a more complete tasting report before the festival opens. For now, here’s a preview of the succulent specialties to come:
Signature Cold Cut Platter, Northern Delicacy
Deep-Fried Shrimp Roll, Shi-Art Chinese Cuisine
Alberta Pork Spare Ribs in Sweet Vinegar Sauce, Bamboo Grove
Sliced Alberta Pork Fillet with Herb & Mushroom, Jade Seafood Restaurant
Are you hungry yet?
Get all the details about the participating restaurants (11 in Richmond, 3 in Vancouver, and four in Burnaby) and their menus from the Chinese Restaurant Awards website.
Have you tried any of these Richmond Chinese restaurants? Please leave a comment and let us know your favorite dishes.
