As the weather drizzled down steadily on my hometown of Seattle, I slipped on a new sling and headed for sunnier spots–specifically Los Angeles. At a time of year that the puddles would still be spilling over the lip of these flats, I was examining my toes for phantom tan lines.
The weather in LA was beautiful, cool enough that the locals were wearing down jackets, warm enough that I pranced about in a skirt. We were all happy. That included my feet.
The shoe is low, you feel almost like your feet are on the ground. A small cushion keeps your feet comfortable, though. The elastic strap that ran around the heel is perfect–I expected a little chaffing there, but there was none to be found. Wearing these through the airport was a complete breeze–on, off, and no angry people behind me in the security line. They worked beautifully with the skirts I was so excited to wear, as well as with jeans when I returned.
Considering how small and flat they are, they also have great potential for being pack shoes. I can definitely see bringing them backpacking as a camp shoe or anywhere else where space and weight are concerned.
There was one issue I had with this shoe, that I would warn you about. In LA it was warmer than here in Seattle, so while I was there I noticed that there was not much ventilation, so my feet would get a little sweaty. Normally you’re either in sandals with ventilation or you’ve got socks on, but with these there was neither, so feet got a little gross.
That said, now that the weather has dried a little in Seattle, I’ve been able to wear them in some decent weather and they’ve been great.
