In New Hampshire the year can be divided into three seasons: ‘Snow,’ ‘Mud,’ and ‘Cute shoes.’
In so much of the world, the months between ski season and beach time (i.e. now-ish) is a period of time where the rain falls consistently and the grey skies can depress even the most optimistic of travelers. Thus the weather was more than perfect for testing out the Lowa Women’s Argon GTX WS Walking Shoe. This is a shoe with a surprising amount of heft. Without being overly heavy, the shoe is extremely sturdy, to the point that taking it on a trail run through a mud filled park with a crazed labradoodle on the other end of the leash worked out well. It held its ground through uneven slopes and slippery steps, while keeping my unfortunately weak ankles from spraining themselves (as they are wont to do).
As the snow melts down the mountains and dreams of powder days drain down into flowing waterfalls, the uses for these shoes expand exponentially, from the previously mentioned rambunctious puppy trail run to foraging for local mushrooms, as they spring from the wet ground.
While the shape and style of the shoe is immediately obvious for spring sidetrackings, it is no one trick pony (as no shoe on this blog is–no traveler needs to bring a uni-tasker on a trip). The dark color and low profile of the Lowa Women’s Argon GTX WS Walking Shoe inspired a friend of mine to remark how good they looked with jeans, as we sipped coffee in the middle of a mild urban excursion. A comfortable walking shoe might never be out of place, but there’s no need to look like you’re climbing Rainier when you are taking a stroll through the neighborhood. These are a pair of shoes that can accomplish that.
