Unboxing:
The first thing you notice about Fits Socks is how small they are once unpackaged. Fits puts one sock inside the other for efficient packing and you would expect this to bulk up the package – it doesn’t.
Even after fully unpacking them you are sure you’ve purchased the wrong size or the package is mis-labeled. They are comically small. But once you give them a good stretch and put them on they somehow keep expanding over your foot and up over your ankle.
Fits are true to their word (from their website) Our Full Contact Fit provides a sculpted sock that perfectly conforms to your foot, regardless of it’s size or shape.
A good backstory:
Fits are manufactured in the oldest operating hosiery mill in the U.S. that originally started out as the Crescent Sock Co. founded in 1902 based in Niota, Tennessee. History lesson aside the Fits story is kinda cool. They claim on the website that there was an epidemic of ill-fitting socks – which I can’t verify but I can believe – and they set out to make the best-fitting sock on the market. Having started and sold my own business I like this goal and to me it looks like they succeeded.
My review is based on the FITS Socks Light Hiker Quarter Crew sock. After all the hikes, treks, air miles, packing, camping and riding I’ve learned that being able to control your temperature can make the difference in the outdoors.
Get too hot and I slow down, get too cold and I don’t want to keep going but – so shedding or keeping heat efficiently was my focus. The Light Hikers ride low on your shin, just above the ankle and the perfect height for trekking boots.
Fits delivers that requirement using a combination of Wool for moisture wicking and Nylon+Polyester+Lycra Spandex to optimize the fit (no pun intended).
Fits Product Line:
The Fits product line includes an array of styles and colors, from types to be worn at work, home, running, hiking, skiing, hunting, and biking. Once I find products that work I tend to stick with them and Fits has made that “preferred product” list.
The more you know:
The Fits company has a pretty cool website and explains their product very well. The sizing chart is easy to read but the best part to me was (surprisingly) their privacy policy – simple and direct and I quote:
Want to know our privacy policy? It’s simple – we will not sell, rent, or otherwise distribute your personal information to 3rd parties…. ever. We value not only your business, but your trust as well.
Nice.
