One of the many perks of moonlighting as a style blogger is that occasionally I get to review products that make me feel like a spy. I wouldn’t be opposed to a carnation lapel that was also a camera, for example, or cute sandals that could transform into roller blades. So when the folks at SHOLDIT offered me a “multi-functioning purse that acts like a scarf,” I was game.
In the photo above, I’m sporting a SHOLDIT Infinity in Coral Canary. I love the silky polyester in such a saturated color. The outside of the scarf is more textured, ridged in a wave pattern. It’s an item that will travel well and wash easily.
The SHOLDIT concept is similar to a money belt or a fanny pack: a place for stashing your passport, money, and keys, so you can cavort at the stadium or discotec or wherever, hands-free. But in its quest to “create revolutionary security products concealed by fashion,” SHOLDIT raises the stakes. (NB: I think the fanny pack, when done right, also weds fashion and function, but sure, no one’s going to mistake it for a rad scarf.)
One of the selling points of the SHOLDIT is the variety of ways to wear it, as shown above. I’m sold on styling it like an infinity scarf or with a bunchy knot at the end. I’m less convinced by the shrug (shown below) and the large loop (above in gray), at least for my own style.
You can wear the “premium” scarves in a cross-body way, thanks to a “cinch toggle” and a cell phone pocket that helps distribute the weight at the hip. It’s a bit too beauty-pageant for me. With the regular SHOLDIT, like mine, it doesn’t take much weight (a cell phone, or a ring of keys, for example) for it to shift and jangle around my neck.
But if I can get away with lighter things, like my ID and cash, then the scarf will be a welcome companion. I can imagine donning my SHOLDIT and helmet, and pedaling my bike to my favorite ice cream place across the river. In fact, what am I doing still at the computer? Why am I not on my bike?
Check out the array of neutrals and brights in the SHOLDIT catalog. SHOLDITs are also available in custom orders, for sports teams, bridal parties, and other bedazzling occasions.
