Mountain Khakis recently sent me their Canyon Cord Pant in Oxblood, which I brought with me on my recent trip to Montana. Since MK clothes are “built for the mountain life,” what better place to wear them than Missoula!
First impressions
Very comfortable, fairly casual fall/winter pant.
Color
Oxblood is a crazy color name. It makes me feel a little wild west just knowing what the color is called. That said, it’s a gorgeous, rich color, and I love it. The nice thing about having a piece this richly colored is that the rest of your outfit can be pretty monochromatic, and you’ll still have a colorful look—great for traveling when you’ll want to keep your color schemes fairly simple so everything goes together.
Cut & style
Mountain Khakis calls the shape of this pant “Broadway Fit”—and it doesn’t mean broader fit, it actually means that the pant is a slimmer fit and lower rise than some of the other Mountain Khakis pants.
Fit
These are some of the best-fitting pants I’ve ever had. Very true to size. I typically wear a size 4 regular, and that’s what these are. They were snug everywhere they should have been, giving my booty a nice hug without being tight (my hips measure about 38″). The length was great too (I am 5’6″). I would like to note that they are a bit more snug on my hips than in some of the pictures online, but I like them better that way.
This Canyon Cord Pant is also 2% spandex, so they’re “ready to swing the night away,” if that’s your cup of whiskey.
What to pair them with
Built for the mountain life, these pants will go great with any sweater or t-shirt. I wore them a few times with an oatmeal-colored cashmere cowl neck sweater I love to travel in.
I also found that they went well with my lightweight down jacket or my North Face jacket and looked a bit classier than jeans.
In these photos, I wore them with my Teva rainboots. Due to the cut of the pants, I found they looked a lot better without tucking them into the boots, as I normally do. (I also think a pair of charming oxfords geared toward cold weather in a relatively neutral color (perhaps navy) would be adorable with these pants.) I added the woven fedora and short bohemian sweater to give them a slightly more urban styling.
I definitely recommend these pants, especially if you have some some destinations (or you live) in the American West. Just make sure the Broadway Fit is what you want. It takes a little getting used to when most of your pants are leggings and skinny jeans.
