I live in the Inland Northwest, which means I’m always on the lookout for layers and a good plaid. When the folks at Royal Robbins offered to send me their Ticaboo Plaid Long Sleeve, I was glad to give it a whirl. Royal Robbins is named for a famed mountain climber. I dig their motto “to equip the outdoor person who lives inside everyone.” And in this weather, my outdoorswoman is not only deep inside, but likely underneath a blanket and a couple of cats.
The Ticaboo shirt is a 60/40 cotton and polyester blend, which wards off wrinkles. (The shirt is also UPF 35+, so its sun protection powers may prevent wrinkles on the wearers, too). The shirt tail hem suits my style. It’s a casual but finished edge. I have a lot of torso to keep warm in the winter, so I appreciate the generous length without bulk or boxiness. I opted for the Lavender shirt because I like the boldness of the purple balanced with the warm tan and a thin strip of cranberry. The shirt is also available in Rose Wood and Light Teal.
Yesterday I wore it with a leather jacket. I was definitely stylin’ during my office hours on campus (everyone thought so).
The Ticaboo plaid has several decorative features. The gathers at the yoke add a bit of visual interest, but combined with the two front pockets, it all starts to feel a bit much. I’d prefer to have one or the other. The shirt also has tabs to fasten when rolling up your sleeves. I found the tabs to be a little constricting. Maybe I have claustrophobic forearms. Or I’m just really buff from all the typing I do as a style blogger/English prof double threat. At any rate, the sleeves look great when extended full length, too.
Overall, the Ticaboo Plaid strikes a good balance between flannel-inspired cozy and office-appropriate button-down. I’m sure this long-sleeved will be in heavy rotation this winter.
Royal Robbins also features some fun sweaters, skirts, pants, and more for women and men.
And Beth, the captain of Wanderlust, is giving away a Royal Robbins Snow Wonder Vest this month. Check out her WanderGear blog, and sign up for a chance to win. What makes the holidays even better? Winning.
