After a brief coffee hiatus over the New Year, I regained momentum by visiting Fuel Coffee in Capitol Hill. Fuel is a bit off the beaten path, tucked in between Mercer and Roy on 19th Avenue. One of three locations (the others are in Montlake and Wallingford), Fuel is a small shop with large bay windows overlooking the tree-lined street. Prime seating at the bar in the window or the padded chairs in the corner make Fuel an ideal place to people watch while you’re pretending to “work”. The barista was smiley, accommodating and decorated my latte with a cool latte art design. The shop also features an artist of the month and a selection of High5 Pies. Prices are in line with other area shops – I paid $3.40 for my tall latte.
Unlike SoulFood, Fuel doesn’t have the space for live performances but it’s a great place to pick up a cup and a free wi-fi connection. I wouldn’t recommend driving across town for a visit, but if you find yourself in the area, on-street parking is readily available and there’s no doubt you could do worse than Fuel for a cup of joe.
A solid 4 stars.
