Anyone know a place to get a decent cup of coffee around here? Now that I’ve officially moved into an apartment and unpacked a few boxes, it’s time to start discovering the neighborhood. I’ve settled into Capitol Hill and without bragging too much, my apartment has a great view of the space needle and downtown. But what neighborhood is complete without a few favorites: favorite bar, favorite grocery store and, of course, favorite coffee shop.
The perfect coffee shop is a place that is almost as important to me as a comfy bed. Without one, I feel lost; constantly searching for a place to set up a laptop and forget the afternoon. For that reason, the next few posts are going to be dedicated to finding my new “regular spot”. I’m not too picky but I do require a few things to make me happy: a cozy atmosphere (read: earth toned colored walls, hardwood floors, generally happy patrons and baristas, etc.), a good latte and wi-fi (preferably free). Bonus points will be awarded if the place is close enough to my apartment that I can walk, if it has a supply of board games or if it has couches that are worthy of falling asleep on.
First on the list? Joe Bar on Roy Street.
Upon walking in, Joe meets some important requirements right off the bat. The barista is friendly and conversational, the interior oozes with good vibes and I spot some board games in the corner. Free wi-fi? Not a problem, says the man behind the bar. So far, so good. I also really like the split level attic area that gives this cozy spot some extra room. And the coffee? Spot on.
Overall, I’m impressed. Joe has just the right amount of character, chill tunes on the overhead speakers and a location that’s about perfect. They also cook up crepes, sandwiches, soups and salads in the back and offer a small selection of wine and beer. Unfortunately I have to knock one star off for the lack of couches.
Joe Bar is located at 810 E. Roy Street, Seattle, WA 98102
