As a traveling skier, you need to lug around so much baggage, making any piece of clothing that can multitask a winner. I’m always on the lookout for products that serve a number of functions: ski jackets I can wear around town, apres-ski boots that I can also hike with, etc.
When I first discovered the Fjord long sleeved flannel shirt from Patagonia, my heart skipped a beat. Let me just say this: Canadians take their flannels seriously, and this one is no exception. I love me a good, cozy shirt. Made from oh-so-soft organic cotton, the Patagonia Fjord flannel is like slipping into a slice of heaven. Hyperboles aside, the cut is relaxed, my chest doesn’t struggle with the buttons and the hem falls just below the hip flexor. Perfect.
Though I have only tested this bad boy out in what I would call the “lifestyle” category, I can already tell that it would double as an excellent mid-layer for skiing. Sidenote: it’s advisable to wear a poly or wool blend base layer and a wicking mid-layer to keep the body warm and dry. Avoid wearing cotton directly on the skin as this will retain moisture, making it difficult to stay warm.
Though I picked mine up in Japan, find it on Patagonia’s online shop for $89 USD. Like most Pata-Gucci apparel, it’s a little on the pricey side, but totally worth it. The Fjord comes in a variety of rad colour schemes, though it seems mine is not part of the online line-up.
Winter is coming,
