As exciting and fresh as my job can most of the time be, there is also a lot of repetitiveness. All these places that I write about going to are cool and fun in their own way. The first time. And the second time. A little bit the fourth time. But by 37th time I am itching to try something different.
There is also this condition in my line of work, where we all tend to go to the exact same places every single layover. Eating at the same restaurants, doing the same shopping, and exploring the same roads. I am trying to combat this unfortunate pattern and getting way WAY outside of my comfortable parameter. Meaning the general area around our hotels.
Now that I have sufficiently bored you with my issues I will get to my point. On my layover this week, I wanted to see a new sight in Ottawa. Not Parliament Hill or Rideau Centre or a restaurant around ByWard Market. While those are all great things to see, I wanted to get out a bit from the downtown core. So on the recommendation of a friend I headed to Little Italy.
A long walk or a short bus ride away you can access this part of Ottawa very easily. I went with a friend and after walking around for a bit settled into a popular restaurant/bar called Pub Italia. For lack of a more profound way of describing it, it’s just cool. Inside it looks like a cathedral complete with pew like seating. Outside is a large patio surrounded by art. We spent a couple hours here trying some of the beer from the “beer bible” and eating some great pub style food.
After Pub Italia and another quick stroll around, I had to head back as my layover this time around was very short. I know that I will soon be back and can’t wait to check out another new sight.
