Now where did I leave off? Oh yes, I made it back to my hotel just in the nick of time, avoiding any human turned to rodent disasters.
I was given 24 hours in Copenhagen, and I had already spent about 8 of them exploring the city on my bike. Ready for a night on the town, I met some friends in the lobby and we headed out.
First stop, dinner. We headed to the trendy Kødbyen (or meatpacking district as I successfully can pronounce it as). This was a recommendation from a few locals, and I am so glad we took them up on it. To say that it had an air of hipster, would be an understatement. It was literally an area of factory looking buildings with a parking lot in the middle. Nothing dressed up or made to be fancy looking. Which to me added to its coolness factor.
We walked around until settling into a restaurant called BioMio, that was set up as a marketplace style. You get a card and you order directly from the chef’s and bartenders. A style that is equal parts fun and dangerous. I have been known to swipe the cards as freely as I do my MasterCard. Which is a lot. I selected a stir fry that was fresh and tasted lovely. It is all organic and the prices (for Copenhagen) are reasonable.
Moving down the parking lot, we were lured into a bar called Karrierebar. What really drew us in must have been the bonfire going on directly in front of the entrance. I was intrigued immediately. The hard and grimy exterior served opposite to the well put together interior. A beautiful bar surrounded by modern art fixtures. It was only 9pm but it was already picking up inside. Lounge music playing in the background, we nestled ourselves in between conversations, I am assuming were happening in Danish.
We spent a couple hours in there enjoying half priced drinks (still about 9 dollars canadian) which were made with such love. The bartender tried every single one of his concoctions until it was perfect. And they were. Mine was a pineapple dream. I can’t remember the exact ingredients, but it tasted like rainbows and fairy dust.
After a stroll through the parking lot/trendy going out area, we headed home. I absolutely cannot wait to go back and check out another area that I am sure I will love.
