I have to say I was just a little bit saddened that Ben Affleck did not greet me immediately upon my arrival in Boston. I would have even been ok with Matt Damon coming in his place, but nothing. Nada. Disappointment in toe, I had to make the most of my one day in Boston.
I arrived early in the morning and jumped right on the subway and headed straight for Harvard. It has always been a dream of mine to walk the famous campus. Pretending to live in places that I don’t is one of my favourite things to do. Wandering around is a close second. I spent about an hour roaming the Cambridge area and watching the comings and goings of students. Once I sufficiently creeped enough people out, I decided to take the official Harvard tour. Its student led and completely free. They walked us around the Harvard yard, which included student housing, the library and of course the John Harvard statue where I did rub the left shoe for good luck. I will let you know when it kicks in.
If you happen to get good weather, the Cambridge area is so beautiful. Its exactly how I pictured an old university town to look like. Picturesque homes nestled on tree filled streets. You could spend hours roaming around and popping into different stores.
Back on the subway I made a pit stop to Washington Street where I said I would not buy a single thing. A statement I am sure we have all made to ourselves at one point or another. How could I resist no tax for clothing under 175 dollars. Now that’s just a steal.
Last stop on my day of fun in Boston was Quincy Market. Walking distance from Washington Street it was a lovely final stop. The building is from the 1800’s and has indoor and outdoor shops and restaurants. It is a great place to pick up all your souvenirs and enjoy some busking on the street. On the way out I had to stop for some clam chowder. My trip to Boston wouldn’t be complete without it.
