There are ways to make the most of even the cloudiest of days.
1. Take a walk in the rain. Unless it’s a torrential downpour (or lightning), strolling down the beach, thru the Paris streets or along a nature trail will open your eyes to your surroundings in a different way. Listen to the water drip from the trees. Let your toes sink in the sand and enjoy the peacefulness of an empty beach. Jump in the pool. You were gonna get wet anyway.
2. Watch the weather patterns. Tropic humidity usually builds during the day to produce showers in later afternoon or evening. Plan your activities for early morning. I guarantee later in the day, when the the rain appears, you’ll welcome the break from the heat.
3. Have a flexible schedule with outside and inside options. Raining in the morning, then clearing? Explore a cave in the am then visit a local art gallery.
4. Go to a museum. Or a movie. Or the spa. I once spent a stormy Paris day in the catacombs beneath the city.
5. Nap. One of my favorite things to do. You may be thinking, I’m on vacation, I want to go, go, go. Don’t miss an opportunity to slow things down. Relax.
6. Read a book. Be honest, if it was suppose to be a sunny beach day, you’d be laying around reading (and napping) on your lounge chair. So do it in your plush bed instead.
7. People watch. Your hotel lobby or a local cafe is a great place to settle in with a coffee or a croissant and watch the locals and tourists wander by.
8. Have a little “afternoon delight”. (Enough said.)
9. Order room service. Then see #5, #6 or #8.
10. Shop. You heard me. I give you permission to shop. Go for it.
Don’t let a rainy day ruin your vacation. Embrace it. Put your rain gear on and splash in some puddles. It could turn into a magical experience.
