Here’s the last three favorite shots I took when I was in Burma. It was difficult to pick just six, I think I’ll have to post some more of them up somewhere else, perhaps on Picasa or Flickr.
Fishing and tourism is the main income for people who live on Inle Lake. Inle Lake is a major traveler’s stop in Burma, known for its’ beautiful vistas and calm, relaxing atmosphere. I was amazed to see this fishermen balancing on such a narrow boat on only one foot, the other foot busy maneuvering his paddle.
This magnificent tree caught my eye right outside of the town Mingun. The town is known to house the Mingun bell, the heaviest functioning bell in the world. I don’t know what kind of tree it is, but all I wanted to do was climb it. I thought twice and just took the photo instead.
At first glance this photo looks like just another meal shared by friends. This was taken the morning after the April 1st, the day after the first democratic elections in Burma. The woman pictured here is the representative of the National League for Democracy (NLD), the main opposing party in Burma. Aung Sung Suu Kyi is the leader of the NLD party. This election was a landslide victory for the NLD, with them winning 41 out of the 45 contested seats in Parliament in the election. While the country is still ruled by military regime, times are changing. This woman was the recent winner of the contested seat for her district in the town of Kalaw. I was thrilled to be able to congratulate her in person.
