I’ve written now multiple times that there are no items I must have when I travel, besides my passports and important documents. But there are some favorites I own that I prefer to travel with, depending on the activity I’ll be doing and what the climate will be at my destination. Here are my top four that I made sure to pack for my two-week trip in Switzerland.
1. Swifty Zip Hoodie by Horny Toad
The Swifty Zip Hoodie ($75) is an excellent active travel piece. The stretchy, soft long-sleeve top is made of a mixture of drirelease recycled polyester, spandex and tencel (my favorite travel fabric). Wicks away moisture, feels like silk against my skin, blocks from UV, AND it looks classy. A solid addition to my travel AND hiking/running wardrobe.
One feature of this top that I adore is the hood. On colder afternoons I can zip it up and pull the hood over my head to keep warm. The fabric doesn’t snag no matter how many blackberry branches I run into on my hikes around Interlaken.
2. Pulse Capri by ISIS
Fall time travel can be hard to pack for-weather changes frequently. This is when capris top my packing list, specifically the Pulse Capri ($59).
Whether I’m hiking, biking or climbing, these capris give me enough coverage and stretch to move freely and with ease. I wore these recently on a hike just outside of Zurich and am so happy I packed them for the sunny (but chilly!) afternoon.
There are no zippers to zip or waistbands to tie, the pants simply slip on and off. I was worried about them becoming too stretched out and falling down, but after a few grueling exercise days, they held up (literally) just fine.
Similarly, the Everyday Bra by ISIS is another fave I put in my suitcase. Made of a mix of nylon, polyester and spandex, it’s so comfortable I could wear it-you guessed it-everyday.
3.Ellery Dress by Aventura
I hate ironing. Loathe. With the Ellery Dress ($79), made of 60% organic cotton and 40% rayon, there’s no need to iron whatsoever. The dress is incredibly soft and the A line cut is flattering on practically all body types.
I love the fact that I can wear this casually during the day, and then dress it up with jewelry or a scarf to head out to dinner. Machine wash? You know it. You’ll be seeing me in the Ellery Dress often while I’m here in Switzerland, and if I accessorize properly, you won’t realize it’s the same dress.
4. Crystal Waters Skirt by Redington
Redington is mostly known for their fly-fishing clothes and equipment. Their best kept secret though is their women’s clothing. Sure, it’s termed sportswear, but many of their pieces can be also packed for active travel. The Crystal Waters Skirt ($70) is a skort I brought to Cuba, and I wore it on the WanderTours Rogue rafting trip. It worked out so well, I now am wearing it as I sit here in Switzerland.
The stretchy fabric allows for substantial range of motion and the material itself seems to repel water off of it instead of getting damp. The waist and length are adjustable, so if I lose weight in Switzerland (unlikely) I can make the skirt smaller and show a bit more leg. 🙂
