My first experience with Cinco de Mayo was a beach party on the island of Guam. One of my military students and her family shared their wonderful traditions with me. They make homemade tamales and they invite friends to participate in a salsa contest, where everyone enters their best salsa recipe. Each guest tastes the entries and vote on a winner. The top three winners walk away with prizes. Its a nice touch to any Cinco de Mayo celebration to include everyone in a unique way. Along with great salsa we enjoyed a feast including tamales, homemade tortillias, enchiladas, dips, guacamole and margaritas.
Cinco de Mayo offers fun for the entire family, from pinatas and games for the kids, to fabulous food and drinks for everyone.
