As I count down to my departure for the Aruba Renaissance Resort (ten hours and counting), technology floods my mind. These days I wouldn’t consider going anywhere without my cell phone or a whole list of other technology related products. So as I pack, my top five items all have to do with staying connected. First on the list, my cell phone followed by my solar charger, laptop, adapter plugs and my digital camera. Yes, I’m heading to paradise but I want to capture a piece of paradise for my readers and these days that includes twitter updates, photos from my phone and posts on wanderlustandlipstick.com where my readers can feel Aruba’s magic.
Travel and travel writing have changed dramatically along with the technology we have come to depend upon. Long ago travelers took great notes, did leg work, took great photos and then whisked their way home to write a great travel piece. I’m sure if you write for a print publication that’s still possible, but when you write for a travel website as I do readers like to follow along and experience the destination, when possible. It’s exciting, challenging, and it’s the beauty of living in today’s ultra connected world.
So, what about Aruba being my tropical escape? I have that covered. Here are my top five escape priorities in no particular order.
Sexy Sandals
Bathing Suit
A Book
A Spa Reservation at my resort.
A few island inspired drinks at the bar overlooking the beach.
If you were joining me what would your priority be?
