Somedays, I am itching to make images but anxious and indecisive. My whiny self will say, “What will I photograph?”, my creative self will say, “Take a walk.” So I do. Beauty is all around you. And when you open yourself to it, a subject will find you. I took a walk around the neighborhood and there were many subjects awaiting me. The first three just steps from the front door. To make ‘my project’ mission more interesting, I add some limitations. Today I chose to take only my 50mm lens and focused on experimenting with Aperture. Composition comes into play here. I frame the subject carefully to include elements of the background and then play with the aperture settings to get an effect that speaks to me. Sometimes the background is reduced to colors and shapes and at other times repetitive elements or textures give context and a sense of depth. So grab your camera, and stop to pause, right outside your front door………….
