When you think of lobster you should think of Puerto Nuevo, Baja California in Mexico
Puerto Nuevo is a small fishing village located approximately one hour’s drive south of the San Diego-Tijuana border. The quaint village is accustomed to American tourists so most speak English and are awaiting Americans to dine in their restaurants and buy their souvenir jewelry, cigars, and blankets.
You are able to purchase a whole lobster directly from the fisherman who just caught it and is now waving the live lobster in your face for $15. The prices are also accustomed to American tourists so do not expect fresh lobster for 10 pesos. You can not go wrong at any of the restaurants located in Puerto Nuevo because the lobster will be fresh and the prices comparable. Your dining experience will be complete with a mariachi band, This dining experience can be enjoyed year long but the real specialty of Puerto Nuevo is Lobster Fest.
Lobster Fest is an annual festival held in October (lobster season is October-March) where the main street is closed down and filled with people enjoying the festivities. It is a great experience where you can eat the locally caught lobster and enjoy local Mexican bands, wines from the vineyards located in Ensenada, and of course the Mexican culture.
