Looking for less selfies and more pictures of summits and sunrises on your social network of choice? Gociety is a social network designed to connect outdoorsy folks with new friends ready for an adventure. Currently available in Colorado, Utah and Washington, members post trip plans like a cross-country ski ride or a Parkour meetup for ladies. Once you join the free site, you can post an upcoming trip, join a trip or read the catalog of Trip Reports. The Trip Reports section is a like the Trip Advisor review section on crack. For example, in this Trip Report on climbing in the Calico Hills area of Red Rocks National Park near Las Vegas the author shares advice on where to park, which areas to climb and even rope length suggestions for belaying down certain routes.
The Gociety site states that its goal is to connect adventurous people with one another, help members lead more active lifestyles and grow their adventure network. The site is a little confusing at first but it looks Gociety achieves its goal of connecting people despite the sometimes-confusing navigation.
Some of the types of trips that you can expect to see are ski trips, hiking meetups, postings for free REI courses or outdoor film festivals. I can only imagine the selection of activities will grow as new members join the site and I’m excited to see more options get added for the Seattle area, where I live.
I’ll be sure to post a review once I join a trip. Have you been on a Gociety trip before? Tell us about your experience in the comments below?
Happy travels,
