Sometimes you get to throw colorful powder at your friends. Other times you get to cannonball into pools of mud. A 5K Fun Run is so much more than just a jaunt through a 3.1 mile course these days.
To celebrate the 2013 harvest, Airfield Estates Winery in Prosser, Washington hosts a fun run through their vineyard. If that isn’t cool enough, there is a pre-race flyover and grape tasting throughout the course.
A few weeks ago, my friends and I made the 3-hour drive to Prosser for the Vineyard Run and Grape Stomp. The run was a great warmup for wine tasting and grape squishing. We definitely took the grape stomping more competitively than the run, making friends with the employees so they would fill up our crate of grapes as much as possible. In the end we smooshed gallons of grape juice for the Airfield 2013 Ruby Rosé.
We also made friends with a crew from the Wine Yakima Valley organization while they filmed a promotional video during the event. They promote wineries in the region and are a great resource for winery visit. Check out their Facebook page before you visit the area for the scoop on local events.
Cheers,
