What’s your purpose?
Welcome to the Travel with a Purpose blog! This blog is collaboratively written by four women who share a passion for travel and are committed to helping others see the world in a responsible way.
Women travelers are all hard-wired as responsible travelers – it’s in our nature. We are sensitive, compassionate creatures who easily become emotionally connected to the places we visit and the people we meet. We look at the impact that our actions have on others, both in the present and down the road.
Travel with a purpose, put simply, is travel that goes beyond personal satisfaction. Its goals go beyond filling your camera’s memory card and checking off items on a “What to See” list. As a matter of fact, those who travel with a purpose never go to “see” anything – they go to experience it!
The deeper tenet of travel with a purpose is generosity. It’s letting go of the belief that this trip is “all about me” – what I do, what I see, what I buy. Instead it’s about approaching travel with the mind set that you are bringing yourself to this new place and new people, not just taking something away from it. Traveling responsibly means not only making conscientious choices, but taking responsibility for your role as member of the world community.
Purposeful travel is driven by many things:
– concern for the environment – commitment to the idea of service – the need for deep and meaningful connections with others – a desire to represent your home country in a positive way – efforts to expand your awareness and perspective – support of cultural preservationThe list goes on and on…what’s your purpose?

This sounds wonderful! I can’t wait to see this blog regularly.
I’ve been traveling the world for more years than I care to count, most of them within the parameters you describe. As a journalist, I specialized in development and humanitarian stories, precisely because I wanted to give something back.
I used local transport, stayed in villages and on farms, and tried to see the world through the eyes of others.
I think your blog will be inspirational and I’m really looking forward to it!
Thank you kindly, Scribetrotter! Your style of travel is just the sort that we respect and admire. It is heartening to hear from others who “travel with purpose”!
