International Women’s Day is on March 8th every year. It is a day to celebrate all the women in our lives, as well as a day to celebrate being you! I was curious to see what kind of events and activities are being held around the world in honor of women. Imagine my delight when I learnt about WHOA Travel and that they are celebrating International Women’s Day with an intrepid hiking adventure this year. If you’re wondering what WHOA means, it stands for Women High On Adventure. Behind the catchy and unique name are the two amazing women who founded WHOA Travel – Allison Fleece and Danielle Thornton. Their mission is to provide exciting and meaningful adventure travel for women by women.
Allison and Danielle first met when they trekked Mt Kilimanjaro together. Wanting to share their experience with other women who seek adventure and friendships, Allison and Danielle founded WHOA. Offering personalized adventure trips, WHOA trips can range from standing tall at the cradle of Incan civilization: Machu Picchu in the Andes to hiking the peak of Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
In fact, that is where Allison, Danielle and the WHOA group of women adventurers are right now! They are hiking their way to Mount Kilimanjaro with the grand goal of summiting Kili on International Women’s Day – March 8th, 2014 – which is this Saturday. What an exciting and unique way to celebrate being a woman. I wish I could’ve joined them on this epic adventure, but for now I’m happy with following their progress on their Facebook page and looking through their Kilimanjaro Photo gallery. As an avid hiker and as somebody who loves nature and being outdoors, I think this is a unique and fantastic way to celebrate a day as important and significant as International Women’s Day. What better way to showcase your inner strength, your willpower and determination? Hiking Mt Kilimanjaro is on my bucketlist and I hope I make it there one day. If not this year, there is always March 8th next year.
How are you going to celebrate International Women’s Day?
