As I’m sure you can imagine, this Luxury Nomad doesn’t like to rough it. And especially when I am traveling with my family, comfort and safety are both very important.
Years ago we swore off staying in hotels with our kids for a number of reasons; it’s too hard to get everyone to sleep in one room, we need a refrigerator to keep breakfast and some basics on hand, we always need some afternoon downtime and it’s hard to settle into a small hotel room with limited space. Condos, villas and other vacation rentals are usually much more comfortable for us.
However, on my recent trip to Mexico, a few all inclusive family resorts began to change my mind about the “no hotel room” rule.
Here’s why.
Hacienda Tres Rios: This family-friendly all-inclusive has so many activities it’s perfect for families and small kids. From the kayak-tour through the Mangrove forest to the shallow lagoon, this is a super-relaxing place to be with the kids.
While the rooms are set up like “standard” hotel rooms, including a bathroom, two beds and a small sitting area, they do have small refrigerators to keep milk and a few essentials handy and 24/7 room service to serve every whim.
Paradisus Esmerelda: Here the standard rooms that actually have a separate bedroom from the kitchenette/sitting area. If the kids need to nap or sleep, it’s possible to shut the door to the main bedroom and bathroom area. Plus, the rooms all have a large outdoor patio offering ample space for a family of 4 or 5.
But what makes this resort amazing for families is their “Family Concierge” program. At check in you are introduced to your personal concierge, who is on hand all day every day to help make your stay amazing. You’re given a cell phone so you can reach your concierge at any time.
Plus, while you’re out enjoying the pools and the beach, special surprises and treats show up for the kids throughout the day.
Oh, and did I mention they have swim up rooms? That’s enough right there!
Grand Velas: In addition to being a lovely all-inclusive resort with a nice beach and plenty of pools, the kids program at Grand Velas is outstanding. In addition to the standard kids club center stocked with movies, snacks and fun staff , they also cater to kids who are slightly older. Including a separate game room and “tween” activity center makes this a great choice if your kids are in the 8-12 range.
