Living on an Arc is an unusual book about one man’s life and experiences on the caribbean island of Nevis as a VSO British volunteer. As one reads the book you uncover bits and pieces of the geology of the island as Brent Wilson studied geology and brings the reader into his explorations there. When I began reading I was baffled by his title, and it didn’t become clear what the title meant until mid way through the book. The book is enjoyable and interesting, particularly for those of us who love travel, adventure, off beat experiences and island life. I thoroughly enjoyed his story and the unfolding of his life on Nevis over a several year period.
Like most of us who have chosen to work and live on an island life can be filled with unexpected challenges, island pecularities and riotiously funny moments. He finds himself becoming more at home on Nevis and eventually finds he prefers Nevis to his home of England. Readers will be drawn in to his laid back style of writing about his life on Nevis.
