Ever since I started using compression sacs in which to pack my clothes, I’ve had the conundrum of not being able to pack my electronics in between my tops and pants to keep them safe. So I’ve become reliant on a padded packing cube where I keep my power cords, phone and camera chargers, power adaptors, and anything else that might bang around in my luggage and potentially break.
I’ve had the same packing cube for about 10 years and for a long time have been searching for an updated version. Unfortunately, that manufacturer stopped making them and I haven’t been able to find another one like it. Until now!
I was elated when I discovered at the Outdoor Retailer Show that Sea to Summit has a couple different versions of a padded packing cube which they call the Sea to Summit Padded Soft Cell.
I’ve found that the larger one (two liters) is big enough for all my usual electronic items and power adaptors. Additionally, it can hold my business cards and a small tripod from XShot. The smaller (one liter) cell, is the perfect size to carry all of my GroPro equipment. (For anyone with a GoPro, you know it comes with an extraordinary number of accessories.)
These padded cells are made from high-density foam and protect my items well.
At first I wasn’t sure if I liked the unconventional opening, a flip top that you can bend back and it will stay open. But I’ve grown to like the fact that I can flip it back and arrange my items without the lid closing on me.
Here are all my power cords and the like neatly packed away in the larger Padded Soft Cell.
And here’s the smaller cube which fits the GoPro camera and accessories that I use the most.
What I Love
- That after years, I’ve finally discovered a packing cube with an updated design and colors
- Using two sizes allows me to carry all that I need and be able to pack them around one another in my luggage
- The rounded corners probably save me a bit of room in my luggage
- The cells are water resistant so if anything ever spilled on them or on my luggage, the liquid wouldn’t seep through
At last I can be a happy traveler again!
Available on Amazon starting at about $30. And SO worth it!
Disclosure: Sea to Summit sent these items to me for review. Regardless, everything I have said in the post reflects my honest opinions.
