This video on my favorite travel tips actually includes three products that I regularly travel with. I thought it befitting to unveil this as part of WanderGear Wednesday 🙂
The products are all pretty basic but I never travel without them:
1) Rubber door stop. Most hotel room doors open inward and in many foreign countries (and on cruises, from what I understand), rarely are there chain locks or deadbolts. Therefore, carrying a bit of extra protection couldn’t hurt.
This little item from will set you back a buck or two and it weighs nearly nothing. Slip it under the door and you can ensure that no one will break into your room while you’re sleeping or in the shower.
If you doubt that this happens, I’ll tell you that I’ve heard from a half dozen people who’ve had their rooms robbed at night or while they were in the shower. The stories I had happened in Mexico, India and Vietnam. The thief was probably a hotel worker who had a key to get in quietly.
Available on Amazon for under $5 for two.
2) Kindle. A little elf left a Kindle Fire under the tree for me this Christmas. Oh how I love this little baby. Previously I had the old Kindle (probably 4 years old now) and this is such an incredible improvement I can hardly believe it. It’s a joy to read books on it and I also have my RSS reader (through the Feedly app) set up so I can catch up on travel news on it.
Of course, I now will never travel without it. Though I still have a stack of print books on my bedstand, I can load this up with what I need for a trip knowing it takes up so little space in my daybag. Love! Best. Give. Ever.
Available on Amazon for about $200.
3) XShot Camera Extender. You must know already how much I love this little item. It’s incredibly useful when I’m traveling on my own but it’s a blast when I’m with friends. Everyone just breaks out into laughter when they see it and they realize the power in this little monopod that allows you to take photos of yourself.
Available on Amazon starting at about $25.
