I walk a lot. Jon and I are known in our ‘hood as that-couple-that’s-always-walking. And when I’m traveling, long walks are a way for me to not only see as much as possible but to get some exercise.
I loved walking barefoot when I was a kid and I actually miss having tougher feet so that I can do the same as an adult. But the practicalities are that I have to have something on my feet when I leave the house. And when I do, I like it to be as minimal as possible (preferring flip flops and lightweight shoes over bulkier types).
Given this, I have found the ECCO BIOM Lite Mary Janes not only practical shoes but ones that also add a bit of style to a very basic look.
ECCO shoes are built with the foot as the priority (note the style) yet created with simple Scandinavian designs. So, rather than constricting your toes in the front, the design is such that it focuses on the area from the heel to the instep and then allows your toes to have some freedom. Never being one to like pointy dress shoes, where your toes are crammed up front, this appeals to me tremendously.
What I Love
- Gentle curves on the footbed but with enough cushion for them to be very comfortable.
- The bottoms are on the rigid side but not so much that they don’t flex with your foot.
- The netted uppers are breathable so your feet don’t get too hot.
- Can be worn with our without socks.
- The Velcro strap across the top is wide and sturdy enough to hold it in place (I’ve had Mary Jane-style shoes where the strap is so thin it keeps popping open).
- Lightweight enough to pack away in your luggage as your second pair.
Not So Much
- I’d be reaching if I had to say there was something I didn’t like about them. They might be the next best thing to being barefoot 🙂
I got these in the spring and didn’t wear them much this summer (preferring flip flops and sandals) but am excited to have them for the fall when I’ll want my toes to be covered.
Available on Amazon starting at $92.
Travel Well,
Beth
