If the weather is warm enough, I’m one to skip the hiking boots and don sandals for a day hike. I don’t need the extra support around my ankles that hiking boots provide and I love the freedom my toes have in open-air shoes. But there is that one issue of hitting my toes against a nasty rock on the trail.
The KEEN Newport H2 Sandals are designed to protect toes from getting smashed up when walking or hiking. With that little extra toe bumper, this protects ’em.
Last fall, KEEN rolled out the ability to custom build your own Newport H2 sandals. Cool idea. But it’s even cooler when the shoes arrive at your doorstep, exactly how you ordered them.
And it’s crazy the number of options you have in choosing colors. You can mix and match the:
- Nylon webbing
- Stitching
- Microfiber accents
- Inner lining
- Woven tabs
- Bungee (tightening) cord
- Outsole
I wish I could say that I came up with some crazy color combination that was fantastically unique. But the truth is I wanted a sandal that I’d wear for a long time. After all, my Keens will typically last more than a year or two with pretty regular use on the trail, in travel and at home.
So I went with something I knew I’d be happy to wear daily. Purple.
I’ve written about the Newport H2 sandals (yeah, also purple) before so there’s likely nothing too new to share here except that those shoes from a couple of years ago are now retired. So, I’m very happy to have an updated version that I say I designed myself.
You can bet these will be with me this spring while I’m traveling to some warm weather destinations. Don’t shoot me but I’ll be in Hawaii, Bangkok and Bali. I’ll also be in Bhutan and as long as the weather holds out, I WILL be hiking in these.
You can order your own custom KEEN Newport H2 Sandals through the KEEN website for $130. They’ll take two to three weeks for you to receive so order now for spring walking.
