Protein Pow(d)er Up Giveaway!

I increasingly hear from people that they are concerned about getting enough protein, especially when they travel and don’t have access to their usual foods.
I get the sense that some of this is due to popular diet trends like keto and apps/programs like FASTer and Noom.
But they’re not wrong! Many studies now show that as we age, we need more protein.
As a plant-based eater myself, I have always been concerned about getting enough protein when I’m on the road. Anyone who has traveled with me, knows that I usually carry a jar of peanut butter. I’m often seen at breakfast using toast as what I call my peanut butter delivery device. LOL
What not everyone knows, however, is that I also always carry protein powder with me. I usually mix it with soy milk if I can find a container of it in a local store. And I resort to water if I can’t find a milk alternative. My favorite way of consuming it, however, is mixing it with a plant-based yogurt and tossing in some nuts or granola to give it all a bit of crunch.

Because this protein trend has come up on nearly every trip I’ve been on this year, I wanted to partner with the folks at Naked Nutrition so I could not only help educate folks about the importance of consuming more protein, but also give you a chance to win a couple of jars of their vegan protein powders for yourself!

I do like me a flavored protein powder and chocolate is my favorite. Naked’s Chocolate Pea Protein stands out to me because it’s not only tasty, but it’s only got three ingredients: pea protein, cacao powder and coconut sugar. If you’re looking for something that’s not full of fillers and artificial flavors, this is above and beyond other brands.
Second, I go for Naked’s Vanilla Shake. This is a little different from the straight up protein powder mentioned above in that you can expect your drink to be a bit thicker and more shake-like than the consistency you’ll get from the protein powder..
It has a few more ingredients, including plant-based flavors and MCT oil, but it’s still a very clean product–especially when compared with many other brands. The MCT oil, by the way, has a number of health benefits in and of itself, but it also helps increase satiety so you’re less likely to reach for something else to eat after drinking one of these shakes.
I use the shake interchangeably with my protein powder, and even sometimes mix half Vanilla Shake powder and half Pea Protein powder to my soy milk or cashew yogurt. This gives me my chocolate flavor but also adds bulk to whatever I’m consuming.
When I travel, I measure out about a serving a day (but end up missing a day or two anyway). I carry it in a quart-sized baggie inside another quart-sized baggie so as to prevent any spills or mishaps in my luggage. And in case you’re wondering…no, I’ve never been stopped by TSA for an inspection of my protein baggies!
