I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by so many amazing women who are intrepid souls. This past week, two of my favorite traveling girlfriends happened to be in town visiting; one from New Jersey and one from Lummi Island.
First, I had coffee with Meg Peterson, author of Madame, Have You Ever Really Been Happy? She wrote this wonderful memoir about her travels in Africa and Asia. She’d kill me if I told you her age so let’s just say she doesn’t look it and that she’s a huge inspiration to me.
She just returned from three months in Ladakh in the Indian Himalayas, was off to do a one-week backpacking trip in Canada with a friend and at the same time making plans to climb Kilimanjaro to celebrate a significant birthday. She’s simply amazing, I tell you, and if I DID tell you her age, you’d fall on the floor.
You can read about her travels on her blog.
On Sunday and Monday nights, Jon and I were so blessed to have our friend, Marcia (pronounced mar-see-uh) stay with us. Marcia is a true angel, spreading her magic dust on everyone she meets. She’s an artist, a traveler and has the biggest heart of any human I know. She’s also the owner of the Flying Fish on Lummi Island. You can’t meet Marcia and not be effected (or is that infected) for life.

We hadn’t seen her in probably 1.5 years, but when Jon and I visit farmer’s markets and art fairs, we’re constantly saying, “That’s SO Marcia.”
Here are some more photos of the Flying Fish.
It really warms my heart to know that these gals are in my life and that they are but a sampling of the amazing women that I know.

Oh, Beth, I’m very behind in my email, having just returned from that spectacular trip to Mt. Assiniboine, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, and Lake O’Hara. What wonderful climbing, complete with two snow and sleet storms to pretty up the fir trees!
Thanks for your kind comments. It is YOU who is the inspiration, or maybe we just feed off each other. No matter. It was great to see you, again, and I regret that we didn’t take a picture. I want to be pictured on your blog one of these days! Thanks for all the helpful input vis a vis my future plans. Let me get off Kilimanjaro and we’ll talk. Anyone who wants to know my age need only read my book. Who cares, anyway??
Affectionately, Meg
