Though I’ve done some relatively adventurous trips over the years, I don’t necessarily consider myself an adventurer. But, that didn’t stop me from being totally enthralled with Rough Guide’s latest book, Ultimate Adventures.
The book includes 177 ideas for adventure activities around the world that are categorized by region. Each suggestion then includes detailed info about that activity with sections on what you “need to know” and asks the question “is this for me?” (answers are based on physical, mental, skill and wow factors).
By the way, one of the adventures listed is the trek to Tiger’s Nest in India. Phew – I can check that one off of my list 🙂
Yup – that’s me relaxing and overlooking Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan
The light and breezy style of the book not only makes it fun to read but it’s packed with photos that make me wonder why indeed I spend so much time indoors!
Even if you aren’t interested in honing the physical skills required for many of these adventures, the book is a great lesson in geography and makes for eye candy for any armchair traveler.
Quite coincidentally, Rough Guides is running a contest through February 28th, 2009 for you to win a trip to Thailand (for two!) with Imaginative Traveller. All you have to do is enter your name for the drawing. (Pssst, take me with you!)
Whether you enter the contest or not, the book is a must-have resource and a great addition to any Wanderluster’s bookshelf.
Travel Well!

Thanks for the tip I will have to check this one out as I am always looking for fun and unique places to play…
I’m drooling over the book, or perhaps just the idea of the book. Does it cover adventure travel with kids?
Mine are now nearly at the age where we can take them on the Annapurna Family Trek that I’ve been planning since a 1990 trip, long before they were born.
@ Sandra – It doesn’t cover travel with kids per se, but there’s so much detail that you can determine what’s best for YOUR kids easily enough.
