When my husband pulled me away from this spot for the last time, I started to sob. I had found a peaceful rhythm I was not ready to let go of. It reminded me of the first time I visited Isla Mujeres.
Once we returned home, we spent the first few days trying to figure out how we could live on Maui, just for a year or two.
It was so ingrained in our souls, after being there a week, that when we relaxed on our back patio after the long flight home, we thought we could hear the waves. I’m sure it was just the traffic on the interstate playing with our minds (and the jet lag), but it was so powerful, we felt like we had brought it with us somehow.
The first few days on the island, we were dodging rain. I saw a break in the clouds and we headed toward the sun, not having any idea where we were going. As we climbed elevation, we drove through the brightest, fattest, full rainbow I’ve ever seen. Later a local told us, “Oh, that rainbow has been there for three days.” What?! Yes, please.
I enjoyed drinking coconut water. We even found a fallen coconut on our rental property and cut it open.
Ringing the stupa bell in Pa’ia was like meditating.
I loved being able to see the West side of the island from the South shore.
Three words: Rainbow Eucalyptus Trees
When I posted this photo to social media, I was asked numerous times if it was real. As the bark peels and ages, it changes color, creating this beautiful work of art in nature. Simply breathtaking.
There are so many things we didn’t get a chance to see. I have a wishlist that would take at least another week to fulfill. I’m so grateful for the magic we found and the serenity I felt.
Those clouds, the water, rainbows!
Not sure when I’ll be able to afford a return trip, but it’s high on my priority list.
May your journey be your muse,
Rachel
