While in Kauai last month doing some research for a culinary tour of the island, we had a chance to eat at Merriman’s. Owned by chef Peter Merriman, the restaurant features fresh produce, fish and meats that are 90% locally harvested.
Like the Wok Charred Tuna with wasabi, above, everything was prepared to perfection.
The Sauteed Diver Sea Scallops sat on a bed of creamed corn accompanied by tender asparagus.
Oh to have such fresh seafood!
Of course we started out with one of Merriman’s tomato and lettuce salads.
A Hawaiian native, our waiter entertained us with stories of the spirit of Kauai’s residents and gave us some background on the tragic death of Kauai’s beloved surfer, Aaron Irons, for whom a memorial had just been held that morning.
Situated in Kukui’ula Village, the restaurant overlooks a large field, soon to be the Kukui’ula Resort. The upstairs features full dining and a premium bar as well as outdoor seating while the downstairs restaurant has a more casual environment.
Open 7 days. Upstairs dining starts at 5:30 p.m. while the downstairs restaurant opens at 11 a.m.
