I recently had lunch with a friend who works at Seattle Central Community College. She suggested that we meet at their small restaurant, Square One Bistro. This is a small cafe (not like the cafeteria my university had) located next to the school’s Culinary Arts facility within the main building on campus. The online menu looked OK and I figured it would be fun to try something new.
OMG – it was so tasty. And cheaper than you can even imagine.
The salad above was about $2.50 (yes, U.S.). That would have been enough to fill me up on most days, but I was dying to try more, so I ordered the fish special, too. I believe this was sea bass with a side of some mashed yams along with greens and peas.
Truth be told, my friend paid (thank you, Kelley!) but I know my entire meal couldn’t have cost much more than $7. Though this building is supposed to be only for students, if I lived nearby I would be there every day for one of these salads.
They are closed at this moment for a partial summer break but will reopen on the 16th of July. If you find yourself on Capital Hill in Seattle, please go check this place out. It might inspire you enough to join their culinary program (believe me, I’ve been thinking about it!).
