What’s your healthy choice when selecting food for your journeys?
I’m in Week Two of my paid participation in the Vibrant Influencer Network Healthy Choice campaign. Last week I reviewed two flavors of Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt, Blueberry and Vanilla Bean. This week I sampled their Café Steamers, the Kung Pao Chicken and the Turkey & Sweet Potatoes. Here’s my perspective about the products . . .
I’m a traveler first. So whenever I have the chance to try local food specialties at destination restaurants or eateries, I’m there. But it’s also fun to pop into a nearby grocery store to pick up a frozen entree for dinner on those occasions when I arrive at my hotel late in the day. Even if there’s no microwave in my room, chances are good that a kind hotel employee will heat up a frozen dish upon request.
With that in mind, I tried the Healthy Choice Turkey & Sweet Potatoes. Note to self: remember to read the directions first. Unlike many other kinds of frozen entrees, the Healthy Choice meal self-vents – which means you don’t need to remove or puncture the seal first. The meal comes packaged in a steamer basket that’s separate from the outer bowl. Oops. I placed the seal back over the dish before heating for a full five minutes.
Whether at home or when traveling, I tend to favor one-pot meals. And for me, the Healthy Choice Turkey & Sweet Potatoes proved to be substantial at only 250 calories. I liked the small chunks of sweet potatoes, the crisp green beans and the small amounts of wild rice scattered throughout the dish. I would have enjoyed a little more of the wild rice and a little less of the sweet potatoes and green beans, but I’m nit-picking here. I found this to be a good choice when I’m on the road.
My second selection was the Asian Inspired Kung Pao Chicken. At only 290 calories, I also found this to be a sufficient meal. I liked the chicken tenderloins with whole grain brown rice, broccoli, red pepper and water chestnuts. I had the option of pouring the meal into the sauce so I tried it with and without the sauce. Using all of it would have diminished the flavor of the meal so I poured sparingly – perfect.
Give one of these Healthy Choice meals a try for yourself. Let me know what you think.

Amelia from senior match here. Sounds like you weren’t really into the Asian inspired Kung Pao chicken – I usually find that the sauce is a little bit too sweet for my tastes. It occasionally seems like there’s no subtlety left in the prepared food that comes out way. I’m glad that you enjoyed the other, though!

Hi, Amelia ~ I did like the Asian Inspired Kung Pao Chicken, though for me a little sauce goes a long way. The nice thing about this Healthy Choice product is you get to choose how much sauce you want.
