This past spring my co-blogger, Elizabeth, visited Boeing’s Museum of Flight and wrote, “Don’t just wait until you have kids to take—this place is fun for adults too!” When it comes to traveling with kids or simply exploring my own city, I love finding activities that are enjoyable for the entire family. This past week I confirmed for myself that the Museum of Flight is definitely one of them.
My son and I visited the museum last Friday for a playdate. It was “firefighter day” (an annual event), my friend told me; her family has a membership to the museum and attend frequently as a way to get the young boys out of the house and doing something fun. Walking through a parking lot full of firetrucks and other emergency vehicles, we saw countless families learning about safety from the firefighters, medics, and other emergency personnel there to inform kids and adults about safety.
Inside the museum, we headed straight for the kids’ play area, where the children got to sit in aircraft models and run around in an area designed just for them. As we continued to explore, we discovered that the rest of the museum is great for active children, too, with its expansive building and plenty of room to walk around and explore.
I’ll be honest, following a small child’s lead on this particular expedition didn’t provide much opportunity for study. But I’m looking forward to the next visit when I can take my time and learn more about the various aircraft housed at the museum.
