I had the opportunity to visit and enjoy the beautiful Grand Velas Resort in the incomparable Riviera Maya. With crystal clear blue waters and some of the best beaches in the world, Riviera Maya is the destination if you are looking for rest, relaxation and revitalization. It’s very close to the resort town of Cancun, but far enough away from the hub of the city to be truly relaxing.
Mexico itself is one of the most beautiful places in the world and being so close to the United States very easily accessible to most Americans. The Grand Velas sits right on the white sand beaches of the Caribbean coast. It’s located right beside the Yucatan jungle as well, so it has a tropical feel the minute you turn onto the property. Most of the property is mimicking this jungle feel, so the second you arrive, you feel like you are in a different world
.
I was lucky enough to be able to experience the spa on the vast property. Conveniently located close to the main lobby, everything about this spa is taken to the next level of luxury! It is one of the most comprehensive and inclusive spas I have ever been to, which is why is it not surprising that it was named “Best Spa in the World” by Virtuoso in 2010 and continues to be on the “Leading Spas” list since 2009.
The unique thing about this spa is that they use the inspiration of the jungle surrounding the hotel to accent and compliment your experience. I had the chance to indulge in a fish spa therapy, which is an innovative therapy using Garra Rufa toothless fish. It helps improve circulation and remove any dead skin. I have to admit, it was the weirdest thing I have ever done and took a bit for me to get used to the idea of allowing fish to bite my feet for 30 minutes, but it was definitely worth it, my feet emerged smooth and without any dead skin. It also really did help with circulation as I could feel the improvement in my whole body.
Although that was the only therapy I did, the rest of the spa is worth spending an entire day. I have never been to such a complete spa and if you book a service you can use all the different amenities.
The Grand Velas also has something called Water Journey. These two experiences allow you to experience different water experiences meant to hydrate, calm, and reinvigorate the body.
The Grand Velas Riviera Maya water journey is composed of seven different water experiences including use of the sauna, color therapy steam room, clay room, ice room, sensation showers, hot tub and cold plunge, and sensation pools with different areas to treat body aches and pains.
Awaken your spirit and refresh your body in our Grand Velas Riviera Maya Spa – named “Best Spa in the World” by Virtuoso in 2010. A calming sanctuary built in harmony with the natural jungle, the Spa brings the concept of pleasure and wellness to a luxurious new level. The Spa features massage, body wraps, facials, manicures, romantic couples’s rituals, water journey and the Seven World Journeys spa menu.
