Tulum, Mexico has long been the pristine enclave of hippies, yogis and musicians. And upon arrival at this 10-kilometer stretch of pristine Caribbean white-sand beach, you won’t suspect much has changed.
But while many of the original eco-resorts like Azulik and Zamas still exist, a number of new hotels have popped up over the past five years. The ecosystem remains delicate and eco-friendly is still the name of the game, however there are a few new hotels on the scene pushing the boundaries when it comes to luxury in Tulum.
Here are three ways to do Tulum, Mexico like a Luxury Nomad.
BeTulum: BeTulum is the newest luxury property to be built in Tulum. With only 20 rooms, the suites are all spacious and unique. And, real rarity in Tulum, all of the rooms have private pools.
Coqui Coqui: I first stayed at Coqui Coqui in Tulum over 6 years ago with my husband. The architecture of this place is totally unique, and the beach on which it sits makes it stunning. You’ll find cold wine and amazing food, served by indifferent (but beautiful) staff.
The rooms are rustic, chic, and do not have air conditioning but the cool sea breeze and fans keep you cool at night.
Mezzanine: I may be biased because they do have the best Pad Thai in Mexico, but Mezzanine is a great place for couples. While the hotel itself sits high on a rocky cliff, the beach to the immediate left is very nice and where you’ll find guests sprawled during the day.
And seeing as Tulum is a health and wellness hot-spot, nearly every hotel has amazing spa, yoga and wellness services.
Historically it’s been difficult to get to Tulum, however things have changed and these days it’s easy to get to and get around Tulum. With major advancements on the road over the years it’s now a simple drive less than 2 hours south of the international airport in Cancun.
Have you been to Tulum? What did you think?
