I’m accustomed to cooking for 25 people on river trips. Sure, I do my fair share of backpacking, but I’m used to luxury when it comes to camp cooking. We’re talking four burners, propane, big ol’ pots and pans, lots and lots of table space and cooking utensils. I’m glad to report that the Pinnacle Dualist and Crossover Kitchen Kit from GSI Outdoors allows me to keep my gourmet cooking skills intact on a backpacking level.
My taste buds thank you GSI Outdoors.
Shown above, the Crossover Kitchen Kit comes with a number of handy kitchen tools, all nicely compact and mostly pivoted. The spatula was the perfect size for me, the serrated edge coming in handy to scrap the sides of the pot. The spoon was useful in scooping out my mac and cheese. (Mac and cheese is my go-to meal on backpacking trips-such a treat in the outdoors!) I found that I could use the spoon for many of my cooking needs, but the tongs were an additional nice touch. Very gourmet if you will. 🙂 The small containers for spices, oil and soap were just the right amount for my weekend backpacking trip. The scrapper is essential for cleaning our pots and pans on the river, and it was such a bonus to have it included in this kit.
The Pinnacle Dualist, paired with the Crossover Kitchen Kit, fit my cooking needs perfectly for my weekend trip. At just under two liters, the pot was the right size for two people. The insulated cups helped me not burn my hands while drinking my coffee in the morning, and honestly, I need all the help I can get before my morning cup of java. Speaking of mac and cheese, the lid has a built-in strainer so that I didn’t spill my noodles while draining the liquid. Check plus GSI. Really though, what impressed me the most with the Dualist was how compact and contained it became when packed for transport. Everything fit so nicely inside each other, even the foons (or sporks!) folded into half their size.
Any guess as to how much the whole dualist package weighs? Less than 22 ounces. Holy super lightweight cooking setup. Yeah, that’s what I thought well. 🙂
The crossover kitchen set ($37.95) and the Pinnacle Dualist ($64.95) can be bought at the GSI Outdoors website.
