Emily Egge, the Cozumel Chef, offers you an opportunity to experience Cozumel in a way that only the lucky have; with her knowledge as a chef and through her expertise in regional specialties. She personally guides you and your family with a driver, in an air conditioned van through the side streets of Cozumel. Here you will visit small local restaurants and eat authentic Mexican food while experiencing the real hospitality of Mexico.
Emily is a classically trained French chef who grew up in the United States. She trained as a chef in New York City at the French Culinary Institute; now she and her family call Cozumel home. Emily offers Food Tours, Dinner Service and Culinary Classes in Cozumel. I had the opportunity to enjoy her Cozumel Food Tour just two weeks ago and it was exceptional. It was so good in fact that I look forward to taking the tour again on my next trip to Cozumel.
For those of you visiting Cozumel on a cruise ship with limited time in port, you can still experience a Cozumel Food Tour. Our tour began around 11:15 am and lasted three hours. Our group included two couples from cruise ships, they were picked up and returned to the port in plenty of time to return to their ships.
Our particular tour included six stops, including a local market where we learned about the ingredients used in some of the dishes we tried. On our tour we visited the kitchens where we met those cooking and serving the food we enjoyed. We ate shrimp empanadas, shrimp tacos, Sopa de Lima, ceviche, and fresh caught fish. To finish off our tour we visited a local bakery where we each selected our favorite dessert to go. The Cozumel Chef Food Tours includes your meal as well as beer and local soda’s and juices.

Emily is knowledgeable, friendly and down to earth. You will finish her tour with a full stomach and a happy heart for experiencing and seeing the real Cozumel, rather than just the tourist stops. The Cozumel Food Tour is $80 per person and lasts three hours. The Taco’s Torta’s and More Tour is $60 per person and lasts two hours. As mentioned above, the tours include transportation, food and drinks.
A shrimp taco with fried shrimp, black bean paste, pickled red onion and Mexican cream. In addition there were salsa’s with a little heat all the way to stop the burning.
As for my favorites, there were several…………….
I clearly loved the shrimp tacos. I also loved the shrimp empanadas, the fresh ceviche (amazing) and the locally caught fish. In fact I wish I was in Cozumel eating now. You can find the Cozumel Chef on Facebook and Twitter or you can email her at [email protected]
*I experienced The Cozumel Chef Food Tour as part of a sponsored trip to Mexico, though my opinions of the Cozumel Food Tour are my own. My trip was provided by the Mexico Tourism Board and organized by Ogilvy Public Relations.
