Panama City stretched out in front of me. The view was my surprise as I hiked to the top of Cedar Hill Lookout Point in Parque Natural Metropolitano referred to as ‘lung of the city’. I love the vibrancy, energy, and architecture of a city but I like to stay on the thresholds with one foot in nature for trail runs, wildlife spotting and walkable neighborhoods.
I found nature, a quiet lush neighborhood for strolling in, incredible 360 degree views overlooking the city, the canal and the Bridge of the Americas on Cerro Ancon; a protected area for its flora and fauna. La Estancia is a bed and breakfast on the slopes of Ancon Hill. Breakfast comes with entertainment as the wildlife hangs and hovers around the banana bunches and bird feeders.
In front of the hotel a sloth frequents a shady tree. I was told to keep my eyes peeled for Aardvarks at night though I did not spy one.
I got lost wandering the avenues with grand homes and big lawns and found a lovely little restaurant called Country Store & Cafe. The friendly staff called the monkeys into camera range with more bananas. Here in Panama, if you hang a banana bunch they will come in leaps and bounds.
There is beauty all around you, look in, look out and follow the light! ~Louise
